The proposed Goldman Sachs New Head - quarters Building will consolidate several of the firm’s New York City offices in a single location at Site 26 at Battery Park City. The site allows for development of approximately 1.9 million square feet of zoning floor area, with a buildable footprint of approximately 75,000 square feet. The schematic design for the building comprises 45 stories above grade and one level below grade and rises to a height of approximately 740 feet. The building is divided into three primary zones: podium; bustle; and tower. This project is planned with fast track method which requires a extensive scheduling and coordination. Project team was organized with a design architect and associate architect. Other 3 architects were also hired to design a ground floor auditorium, outside canopy and landscape. All of the endeavors were carefully coordinated and incorporated into one harmonized solution within the simple but geometrically interlocked masses. Curtain wall is designed in a way that all of the masses are to be cladded with glass material. This is a sort of neighborhood context which is coming from mostly Amex building and WTC. Since this building has 3 parts, elevatoring and basement plan became critical along with structural solutions. Green issues were also introduced by the city’s request. Ice storage and grey water system were adopted in a mechanical system . My task covered the items above in the technical phase as well as the design issues such as mass study, sky lobby design and curtain wall.
